Renewable Energy Training Consultant UN: Supporting Peacekeeping Operations
The UN Department of Operational Support (DOS) is hiring a specialized Renewable Energy Training Consultant UN to enhance the renewable energy capabilities of troops in peacekeeping operations. The purpose of this assignment is to develop and deliver a specialized training initiative. Under the direct supervision of TPP, you will design, develop, and lead the delivery of a “Training of Trainers” (TOT) course, called the “EM Course – COE Renewable Energy Project Planners and Managers.” This course will, in turn, provide personnel with the knowledge and skills they need to plan, deploy, operate, and maintain renewable energy systems in field missions.
This role is based in New York, USA, but it requires travel to field locations. Your mission will be to produce a course that is both sustainable and scalable. You will, therefore, conduct consultations, deliver pilot training sessions, and train selected trainees to become co-trainers. The goal is to ensure the training program’s long-term success.
Your Responsibilities as a Renewable Energy Consultant
As a Renewable Energy Training Consultant UN, you will play a crucial role in shaping the UN’s environmental strategy. Your duties will include:
- Training Development: You will conduct consultations with UN entities and personnel to assess training needs. As a result, you will develop comprehensive training materials, including scenario-based modules and technical documentation, that align with real-world operational realities.
- Training Delivery: You will deliver pilot training sessions and refine the course content based on feedback. Furthermore, you will train selected trainees to become co-trainers, ensuring the program’s sustainability.
- Field Engagement: You will travel to field locations with DOS experts to assess sites, engage stakeholders, and deliver training. You will, therefore, produce detailed reports and recommendations to inform future training cycles and strategic planning.

What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a professional with a strong technical background and a passion for training and project management.
Required Qualifications
- You must have a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Renewable Energy, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field.
- You must have a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in renewable energy, with a strong focus on the design, implementation, and management of renewable energy systems.
- You must also have demonstrated experience in developing and delivering technical training programs, preferably in a peacekeeping, humanitarian, or military context.
- In addition, you have at least two (2) years of experience supporting peacekeeping or similar stakeholders in deploying renewable energy systems in field environments.
Desired Qualifications
- Certification in project management (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP) or technical training development is desirable.
- Experience conducting technical assessments and feasibility studies for renewable energy projects in remote or austere environments is a definite plus.
- You are familiar with UN peacekeeping operations, Contingent-Owned Equipment (COE) frameworks, and environmental sustainability strategies.
- You have strong stakeholder engagement and coordination skills, with experience working in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
